Has anyone noticed a luminescent pink addition to Main Street? The famous Voodoo Doughnut is coming to Bellevue. Voodoo Doughnut was founded in downtown Portland by Kenneth Pogson and Richard Shannon. They wanted to combine their show-business and hospitality backgrounds to create a new and unique atmosphere in the dessert industry. Within a month of Voodoo Doughnut opening, they were featured by “The Today Show” and “The Tonight Show.” There are now 24 locations across America.

Voodoo Doughnut currently serves 39 doughnuts, including two fall specials: the “Pumpkin Spice Latte” and the “Pumpkin Buttermilk Bar.” In 2022, they received America’s greatest doughnut award for their Bacon Maple Bar. Their unique, innovative ideas shine through some of their top sellers; the “Cock N’ Balls” is a chocolate cream-filled doughnut that does not need further explanation. The “Maple Blazer Blunt” is a cinnamon sugar, maple frosting, and red sprinkled doughnut in the form of a blunt. Lastly, the “Voodoo Doll” Doughnut resembles a voodoo doll with a pretzel stick stabbed in its heart.

Voodoo Doughnut soon joins Top Pot, Mochinut, and Doce Donut as a new competitor in the local doughnut scene. With the amount of creativity Voodoo Doughnuts offer, they are relatively comparable in price to their rivals. Additionally, the company is very involved in giving back to the community and has raised over $250,000 for charity. Yet, reviews have called the store overrated and a “tourist trap” according to Fox 12 Oregon. Don’t believe everything you read and go check it out for yourself.

“Everyone without cars is so excited to have a new spot to walk to and try during lunch. I think there will be a lot of business coming in before school to start your day off with a sweet treat,” sophomore Boden Freeborn said.

Voodoo Doughnuts are opening this Sunday, October 19 at 8 a.m., and the first 25 customers are receiving a free dozen…are you willing to get in line?
