Join the Barque!
Looking for a new class to add to your roster next year?
The Barque is an unique opportunity to explore the world of journalism in the Bellevue High School community. Whether you’re passionate about writing, photography or just looking for a way to express creativity, joining The Barque is guaranteed to give you experience with all three.
As a part of the schoolwide newspaper, you have the opportunity to reach people of all grades about issues that you care about. You’ll make friends in the class and get to talk to lots of different groups at BHS. For those who want to strengthen their writing voice, this class provides an opportunity to practice developing professional writing skills. If you’re interested, please keep an ear out in the spring when we will be recruiting for next year.
Registration Process
The Barque Registration is a multi-stage process including an application and interview. Each new staffer must submit an application that includes questions and a 250-300 word article. Articles can be about local events, sports, large-scale issues and much more. The interview includes applicants being split into groups and answering questions about their writing experience and commitment to the Barque, as well as a few opinion based questions. The applicants will also be asked if they have any background or experience in making graphics and taking photos. Members of the Barque then reconvene and discuss who they believe will benefit the Barque, after which they will send emails to those who are chosen.
