Bellevue High School’s girls basketball team is enjoying a stellar season as the 3A’s No. 1 team with a 15-3 record. With strong chemistry, plenty of talent, and daily practice, the Wolverines have established themselves as one of the best in the state of Washington.
One of the Wolverine’s major assets has been the team’s younger players. Freshman Iyla Jones has quickly become an exceptional player for Bellevue, ranked #2 in the state of Washington for the class of 2029, and already has multiple Division 1 offers.
“We’ve been winning games because our team chemistry is really strong, and we trust each other on and off the court.” Jones said, “With this being my first year on the BHS basketball team, I’ve learned a lot, and it’s been a great experience being part of such a supportive program,” Jones also noted
Sophomore Dilynn Johnson has been a leading player for Bellevue and is ranked #2 in the state of Washington for the class of 2028. Known for her consistency and energy, Johnson has helped the team maintain their steadiness in tough situations.
“I would say that the success that we’re having is all because of the bond that we have off the court, and we also have a great coaching staff, that stresses the importance of trust and communication on and off the court while allowing us to be ourselves all the time.” Johnson said, “It’s like a sisterhood, like a family and that’s what keep us connected and helps us win,” Johnson continued.
Leadership from the veterans on the squad has played a role as well. Senior Syesha Simanton has helped lead by example both in her leadership role and her demeanor. Ranked #2 in the state of Washington for the class of 2026, and is committed to playing at Seattle University. She has been an essential part of the success, citing the team’s synergy and the group’s willingness to put in the work as among the reasons for their success.
“What has helped us succeed this year has just been trusting each other and having each other's backs another building this sisterhood which is allowing us to be successful and just the hard work we put in daily is a huge factor,” Simanton said.
That sisterhood is highlighted on the court in the way Bellevue plays and supports one another in each game.
With hard work, tenacious defense, and an unselfish approach, Bellevue girls' basketball continues to pull away from the competition. As the season progresses, the Wolverines remain focused on keeping it going and starting an amazing, long playoff run.
