A true Bellevue High student knows the daily lunchtime dilemma all too well: Chipotle or PCC? Located just steps apart, these two spots have become the unofficial lunchtime hubs for Wolverines who leave campus. But behind every meal is a strong opinion, and at BHS, the debate over which location reigns supreme is very real.
“I love Chipotle because it is very consistent, quick and has different toppings, always good on a cut or a bulk,” senior Duke Stauffer said.
Chipotle has long held its place as a fan favorite among students, especially those craving a customizable and filling bowl or burrito. With its fast assembly-line style and familiar ingredients, the Mexican grill offers a predictable, quick, and hearty choice. Students echo this, praising Chipotle’s convenience on days when the lunch line at school feels endless. Its consistency and speed make it a go-to, especially for athletes needing something substantial before after-school practice.
Right next door, PCC Community Market offers a different vibe: fresh, organic, and health-forward. Students often gravitate toward its hot bar, sandwiches, sushi, and beverage center. PCC appeals to anyone looking for a lighter or more wholesome lunch, especially those who want variety. With grab-and-go options that lean toward healthier eating, PCC has quietly built a strong following among students balancing busy schedules and nutrition goals.
“My friends and I like to go to PCC because it has tons of different healthy foods and is close to school, making it a convenient spot with a variety of choices,” junior Olivia Anderson said.
While price plays a significant role in the decision, both spots have become known for being on the higher end of a high schooler’s budget. Chipotle bowls typically range from $10–$14 depending on add-ons especially with that classic guac for $3, while PCC’s hot bar is priced by weight, with most meals falling between $8–$13. For students, the choice often comes down to what they value most: consistency or variety, hearty or healthy, fast or flexible.
Whether students are loyal to Chipotle or committed to PCC, the good news is that BHS has two standout lunch options within steps, each with its own loyal fanbase. And as lunch trends continue to shift, one thing stays certain: the debate is not ending any time soon.
