Many Bellevue student athletes don’t just balance school sports and their regular classes but also balance their club sports as well. Club sports are rigorous and can take up significant hours of the day. Finding an effective way to balance school, extracurriculars, club sports and school sports practices can be difficult, yet this task is one that many students find methods to overcome.
“Balancing lacrosse while being in school can be hard because sometimes it’s physically a lot. I stay organized and plan ahead so I can finish my homework early without stressing to rush after practice. Playing lacrosse has helped me become better at time managing and motivated me to do better in school,” said sophomore Izzy Schulam.
To balance all their activities, students make sure to use all the time they can in between practices to finish schoolwork. Students also must learn to manage their time to make sure they are able to stay on top of everything. This schedule is not just physically exhausting but mentally exhausting too. However, these students are learning valuable time management skills and are able to balance their busy schedules which takes serious determination.
“It definitely takes commitment, but it is doable. For me it’s only possible since I love playing sports, but my education goes hand in hand. In order to balance both you need to build steady relationships with coaches and teachers, so they understand [your other commitments],” said freshman Mason Zeitler.
Good coaches and teachers are dealbreakers for student athletes. Allowing them some grace for their busy, mentally draining schedules, allows them to succeed in both their academics and athletics.
Student athletes need major determination, time management skills, and helpful adults to successfully cope with their demanding schedules. These students put in tremendous efforts to balance two sides of their demanding life.
