Here at Bellevue High School, the school provides students with numerous opportunities to gain real-world experience. Organizations like DECA and Speech and Debate have given students unique ways to learn and grow. Since 1990, the City of Bellevue has also offered a program called Bellevue Youth Council, which is utilized by many students at Bellevue.

The Bellevue Youth Council is a membership body of Youth Link. Its goal is to promote youth programs, provide leadership opportunities, plan community service projects, and act as a liaison to middle and high schools in Bellevue. The council comprises 50 to 60 students representing various schools and groups across Bellevue. It has ten action teams that address a wide range of topics, which include the Diversity Action Team and the Community Leadership Awards Planning Committee.
The students in the council meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month. The meetings take place at Bellevue City Hall and start at 5:00 PM and end at 7:00 PM. For the second half of every meeting, the students disperse into their action teams, where they discuss their specific topic. Students discuss the goals they have in mind and try to identify ways the city of Bellevue can help achieve these objectives.
Students interested in joining the Youth Council can apply using an application. The application requires you to provide your personal information, answer two questions about your interests, and respond to four questions that assess your commitment to the organization. The application can be found here: https://bellevuewa.gov/city-government/departments/parks/community-services/family-youth-and-teen-services/bellevue-youth-council.
Overall, the Bellevue Youth Council offers a wonderful opportunity for students to engage with the city and positively impact our community.
