What Happens to Lost Items at BHS?

Have you ever lost an item at Bellevue High School and wondered what happened to it? Losing an item is a common occurrence, from your air pods falling out of your pocket, to leaving your jacket on the stairs and forgetting about it.

When an item is found on campus, it is brought to the attendance office. If you have lost a possession, make sure to look for it there.

Many students have already successfully found their lost items through the attendance office.

“I lost my dad’s puffer vest and found it next to the attendance office,” sophomore Rohan Kalaimani said.

If you do not make the effort to find your things, your item will sit in the attendance office alongside other people’s misplaced belongings. Start by searching through that area, make sure to look around and underneath every item if you cannot find your missing belonging; it may just be under other people’s stuff.

Every couple of weeks, all the items in the lost and found get donated to local charities so the items can be reused. Jackets, blankets, hats, water bottles and more fill the area, so it’s common practice for it all to get donated, making space for more recently lost items.

If you have lost a valuable item or an electronic, check in with the office, as they have a separate storage area for valuable misplaced belongings. You may be asked to describe exactly what you have lost, as the school wants to ensure that items are going to the correct student.

“The office makes sure that valuable items belong to the right student by asking them to describe details about the item or to unlock their phone,” attendance specialist Daniel Kerr states.

There is a locked area where these valuables reside, which hopefully gives you some peace of mind if you have lost something of value on campus.

If you have been procrastinating checking the lost and found for your item, you may be at risk of losing your item for good. Furthermore, unclaimed items also get a chance at a new home. Make sure to find your item in a timely fashion or risk having to wish it goodbye!
