Are you looking for a new place to get dessert? Well look no further. Taking the place of Sugar & Flake, Makkee is a Chinese dessert chain located right next to Bellevue High School and Voodoo doughnuts. They specialize in traditional Chinese dessert soups such as tangshui (a sweet soup served at the end of meals). Three dishes in particular give an excellent, delicious snapshot of what Makkee has to offer.

Mango Pomelo Sago: This dish features a cold mango smoothie base was packed with frozen mango chunks, sago pearls, and shredded pomelo. The textures went together perfectly since the frozen mango made the bite feel like ice cream mixed sago’s unique chew. The pomelo cut down on the richness of the desert offering a slightly tart aspect that made the combination just right.

Mango, Snow, and Black Sticky Rice: This dish features frozen mango, black sticky rice, and vanilla ice cream on a bed of milky ice. All of the flavors balance each other beautifully: mango adding freshness, ice cream offering creaminess and sweetness, and the rice giving some earthy and nutty notes that make for an amazing flavor experience. The textures here (especially the rice) are addicting, leaving you to want to take another bite.

Mango with Mini Rice Balls: This has the same base as the Mango Sago. It includes frozen mango, mango popping boba, and mini mochi balls. The mango flavor is extremely pronounced here which is delicious. The boba as well as the mochi balls give excellent texture. The burst of flavor and chewiness combined with the cold frozen mango is excellent.

Visiting the shop, all of these amazing deserts were visually stunning. Seeing how well put together they were and how all aspects of the dish played into the visual only made it more appetizing. I spent around $40 for three items, which is around $13.50 per item. The portions were not too filling which is good for a dessert place as many people usually go after meals. for a specialized desert shop I’d say it’s the worth money. if you’re looking to add a new tasty and fun place for a sweet treat, For long lunches, dessert, or a late night ice cream run; Makkee is worth it.
