Bellevue High School is known for its wide variety of clubs. From STEM, to business, to the arts and service organizations, BHS offers something for everyone. But while some clubs are well known, others are more ambiguous, leaving many wondering what goes on behind the meeting room doors. With so many clubs to choose from, can students accurately guess what other clubs do?
To find out, several students were asked to describe their clubs and guess other club’s activities. The results? A mix of impressive accuracy, educated guesses, and creative interpretations
Senior Mara Sabes, a member of FCCLA, explained, “FCCLA is a club where we meet and cook food to donate to local shelters; we also get to hang out with friends!”
When asked to describe what Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) does, she said, “I think HOSA is a club where kids can learn and compete in skills that prepare them for working in healthcare,” which, according to a HOSA member, it a pretty spot-on description.
Junior Misha Rustogi, a HOSA member, confirmed this description, stating, “HOSA is a great way for people who want to explore different health careers to get that experience. There are many events to choose from, and you can choose up to 3 that interest you to compete at the State Leadership Conference.”
However, when it came to describing a lesser-known club, things got creative.
When asked about Fashion Club, Misha Rustogi said, “I think Fashion Club discusses new clothes that they could make, and then they sew or crochet during their meetings. The club probably helps theatre with their costumes or advertises their clothing line somewhere.”
Though not completely accurate, her response wasn't far off and even suggested possible collaborations that the club might not have considered.
Sophomore Jaelynn Shin, a member of Fashion Club, said, “Fashion Club is a welcoming community for people interested in fashion. We make, talk about and explore different kinds of fashion!”
When asked about the United Nations International Emergency Children's Fund club (UNICEF), she confidently said, “UNICEF is a great club! UNICEF works to help children all over the world, holding fundraisers to help support them, and learning about the different situations in different parts of the world for those in need.”
Junior Sofia Arana, a UNICEF member, shared a similar explanation, saying, “UNICEF helps educate student on humanitarian crises to provide aid to women and children.”
When asked about FCCLA, she guessed “They make soup and other foods for deliveries, and maybe compete and prepare for in competitions?”
While FCCLA doesn't participate in competitions, the rest of her guess was pretty accurate.
Overall, most students had a good idea of what other clubs do. Some guesses were accurate, while others were more imaginative. Either way, it shows just how many different things are happening around BHS. With so many unique clubs on campus, there is always more to discover.
