Soft-serve ice cream is a delicious treat perfect for the approaching summer. While there are numerous dessert shops in the Bellevue area, SomiSomi is one of the best soft serve places to go to when you are craving ice cream.
SomiSomi Soft Serve & Taiyaki originated in California and gained popularity through its unique desserts such as Ah Boong. Ah Boong is a Korean-inspired treat that combines soft serve with taiyaki, a fish shaped waffle cone. SomiSomi is located throughout the U.S., with locations in California, New York and even some in Canada.
Bellevue’s SomiSomi location is just north of Crossroads right by the Asian Family Market. It’s a quaint little shop with cozy counters, open windows and a big screen displaying the latest flavors of soft serve. The shop switches flavors every week or so, and the latest selection includes cookies and cream, matcha, milk, ube horchata and dulce de leche. They also have three swirl options, which blend two seasonal flavors together to create more diverse options.
“The ice cream was not overly sweet, and it had a better texture than most ice creams since it was rich and didn't melt” freshman Josephine Chen said.
For the taiyaki, you can order them either with ice cream or by themselves. There are various fillings that you can pick to go with the taiyaki; nutella, red bean, oreo, cheddar, custard black sesame and matcha custard are the current options. The freshly made taiyaki emits a pleasant aroma and has a delightfully crunchy yet chewy texture. Paired with ice cream, it’s even better!
